Fix it on your computer
A few things can only be set up on your computer, because they need a key, a pairing or your private things, none of which go through your AI app. When Olympus says to do something on your computer, this page says what and where.
What is only on your computer
These live only in Olympus on your computer, under On this computer. No AI app can show them or change them.
- Inbox: the answers to questions your agents asked that need your private things, and to the questions you ask yourself in Ask a question, kept on this computer. Open Inbox.
- Keys: your Venice, Readwise and X keys, and the Anonymous answers switch.
- Agents: remote access, and the agents connected to Olympus, each with Revoke.
- Build a connector: for a source Olympus does not have yet.
To reach them, open Olympus on your computer, then choose Open next to the one you want under On this computer.
Open Olympus on your computer
On the computer running Olympus, go to olympusplugin.ai/open/dashboard and choose Open Olympus; if your browser asks whether to open Olympus, choose Open. In ChatGPT, Connect and Fix this on your computer in the Olympus dashboard do the same for you. If nothing opens (on a phone, or with an older Olympus), open a terminal on your computer and run:
olympus dashboard
It opens the Olympus dashboard in your computer's browser. The link works once, for 15 minutes; run the command again for a new one. If the terminal says Olympus is not running, see Your AI says your computer is offline.
On a Linux computer without a screen
If Olympus runs on an Omarchy computer you reach over SSH, only your own account there can open Olympus or approve an AI app. From the computer you sit at, open a secure tunnel to it (olympus doctor on that computer prints the exact path for your user; it looks like this):
ssh -N -o ExitOnForwardFailure=yes -L 127.0.0.1:8010:/run/user/1000/olympus/worker.sock you@your-computer
Then, on that computer, run olympus dashboard --no-open and open the link it prints on the computer you sit at.
Approving ChatGPT, Claude or Grok works the same way: the approval page opens through the tunnel.
Signing in to Gmail or Google Drive works through the tunnel too: keep it open, open the sign-in link on the computer you sit at, and Google returns you to Olympus through it. Without the tunnel, the last page after you allow access does not load. Its address still finishes the sign-in: copy the whole address from the address bar and, on the computer running Olympus, run (keeping the quotes):
olympus connect finish 'http://127.0.0.1:8010/oauth/callback/gmail?…'
Do it within 10 minutes of choosing Connect; after that, choose Connect again.
Connect Gmail or Google Drive
Google sign-in happens on the computer where Olympus runs, so your Google account connects straight to it. In ChatGPT, Connect gives you a link: open it on that computer and it continues to Google. On a phone the link says to open it on your computer instead; Gmail and Google Drive cannot be connected from a phone. If Olympus runs on a computer you reach over SSH, see On a Linux computer without a screen.
If you connected Google with a version of Olympus before 1.0.0, choose Reconnect Google in the dashboard after you update: the old sign-in service is retired, so the old connection can no longer renew.
Google says it hasn't verified this app
When you connect Gmail or Google Drive, Google may show Google hasn't verified this app. That is expected: Olympus's Google app has not been through Google's review yet, which is a paid security assessment for any app that reads mail or files. Olympus asks only to read, and only the source you chose: Gmail asks for your mail, Google Drive for your files, each separately. What it reads stays on your computer.
To continue, choose Advanced, then Go to Olympus (unsafe), then allow access on the next page. If you would rather not, choose Back to safety; nothing is connected, and you can use your own Google app instead.
If Google won't let you connect: use your own Google app
Until it is reviewed, Google lets Olympus's Google app sign in at most 100 people in total. Once it is full, Google stops new people on its own page and you never get back to Olympus. You can still connect Gmail and Drive with a Google app of your own. It takes about ten minutes, is free, and Google then shows your own address on its warning, not ours.
- Open Google Cloud with your Google account and create a project called Olympus.
- Turn on the Gmail API and the Google Drive API for that project. Without them, syncing fails.
- Open Google Auth Platform, choose Get started, name the app Olympus, give your own email for support and contact, and choose External.
- Under Audience, choose Publish app. If you leave it in Testing, Google ends the connection every 7 days.
- Under Clients, choose Create client, pick Desktop app, name it Olympus, and keep the Client ID and Client secret it shows. Google needs both when it hands the connection to Olympus.
- On the computer running Olympus, open a terminal and run, with your Client ID:
It waits for the secret: paste your Client secret, press Return, then press Control-D. The secret stays on your computer. Then sign in and allow access on the Google page it opens (or open theolympus connect gmail --client-id YOUR-CLIENT-ID --client-secret-stdin --detachauthorizationUrlit prints). Usegoogle-driveinstead ofgmailfor Drive.olympus connect status gmailsays connected when it worked.
Google still shows its unverified-app warning for your own app, now naming you as the developer. Continue the same way.
Connect your sources
Every source can be connected from the Olympus dashboard on your computer. In ChatGPT, Dropbox can also be connected from the Olympus dashboard there, and Connect next to Gmail or Google Drive gives you a link to open on your computer (see Connect Gmail or Google Drive). These are only ever connected on your computer:
- X bookmarks use an X developer app of your own.
- Readwise uses your Readwise access token, pasted on your computer.
- Telegram and WhatsApp pair with your computer.
- Files on this computer reads folders you pick, with no sign-in.
On a Mac, Files on this computer can't read Desktop, Documents, Downloads or iCloud Drive yet. macOS only opens them to a signed Olympus app, which comes in a later update. The folder picker marks them Needs permission. Until then, pick folders elsewhere in your home folder, or drag files onto the Olympus dashboard to import them. On Linux it reads any folder you pick.
Open Olympus on your computer, find the source under Sources and choose Connect; the page walks you through it. In ChatGPT, then choose Check again in the Olympus dashboard there.
Reconnect a source
When X bookmarks or Readwise stop syncing because their sign-in or token expired, open Olympus on your computer, find the source under Sources and reconnect it (for Readwise, paste a new token). Gmail, Google Drive and Dropbox reconnect the same way. In ChatGPT, Dropbox also reconnects with Reconnect in the Olympus dashboard; for Gmail and Google Drive, Reconnect there gives you a link to open on your computer.
Read your private answers, or turn on anonymous answers
Private answers are in the Inbox on your computer: open Inbox, or open Olympus on your computer and choose Open next to Inbox under On this computer. Anonymous answers are on Keys, under On this computer.
- Private answers. When an AI app other than ChatGPT asks something only your private things can answer, and Olympus does not hand it an answer, Olympus records the question, answers it on this computer with the model built into Olympus, and tells the app the answer is in Olympus, with a link that opens it on this computer. ChatGPT shows private answers in its own private answer panel; Olympus answers a ChatGPT question in the Inbox only if the panel does not collect it in time. Needs you on your computer counts the answers you have not read. Answers stay until you choose Delete or Delete all or revoke the app that asked; a question nobody has answered is removed after seven days. Olympus gives no AI app a way to read the Inbox, and an app gets only the link. The Inbox is a file your computer account can open, though, so an app you let read your files or run programs, such as a coding agent, could open it like your other files.
- Ask a question. On the same page, choose which model answers. The Local model sends nothing off your computer. A Venice model receives the passages of your files it needs, and is available only if your privacy settings allow Private items to go to Venice; a Venice key alone does not allow it. A zkAPI model receives only your prepared question, and what you ask can still identify you. Every answer lands in the Inbox, with what was sent to Venice or zkAPI.
- Anonymous answers are under Anonymous answers on Keys. They work on a Mac and on Omarchy and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (x64), and are off until you turn them on there; your agent can then send a question anonymously, through zkAPI and Tor, using your own zkAPI account.
In Olympus versions before 1.1.0 this page was called Private answers: it listed waiting questions to answer with Answer or Dismiss, and Anonymous answers sat on the same page. In versions before 1.0.0 there is no such page: Anonymous answers has its own row under On this computer.
Answers have stopped working
This means the answer model you set up on your computer cannot be reached. Open Olympus on your computer and look under Models:
- If you use Venice, check that your account has credit, and that its key is still valid: keys are on Keys, under On this computer. Paste a new key there if needed.
- If you use a local model, make sure the model server it names is running on your computer.
Then choose Check again (in ChatGPT, in the Olympus dashboard there). Personal answers keep working meanwhile.
Search has stopped working
Your computer uses a custom search (embedding) model that cannot be reached. Make sure the model server it names under Models is running on your computer, then choose Check again. Changing the search model means indexing everything again, so Olympus only does that on your computer, when you ask.
Change models
Models are set up on your computer, never in your AI app: open Keys on your computer, or open Olympus on your computer and choose Open next to Keys under On this computer. Models is at the top of that page, with the model keys; the built-in models need no setup. Anonymous answers is further down the same page (see Read your private answers, or turn on anonymous answers).
